People’s Cap is a mostly acoustic duo formed in 2015 by Phil Lane and Andy Williamson. Phil and Andy both have a long musical history and are multi-instrumentalists. It is quite unusual for us to play two songs in a row on the same instruments! Guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, diatonic and chromatic harmonicas and accordions, saz, ukuleles, piano, flutes, melodicas, Indian harmonium and percussion have all made appearances. People’s Cap is based in Tervuren, near Brussels in Belgium.
If you’d like to listen to more of my music separate from People’s Cap, you’ll find some things on SoundCloud.
Across the plane of the Ecliptic is a synthesizer album I recorded in 2021. For synth fans, it was played mainly on my vintage Roland Juno 60, which first saw the light of day in 1982. You will have heard the sound of the Juno on a huge number of pop songs. Here, especially on the track “Heliosphere,” you can see why it is still so beloved by jazz and experimental musicians. Including one of my musical heroes, Nils Frahm, who plays it infinitely better than I do!
The Covenant Made New is a CD of acoustic Christian songs, which I made in 1990, just before we moved to Belgium. Unfortunately, the years have not made it any better!
And finally you have Rough Takes and More, some songs and instrumentals of mine which we haven’t done yet with People’s Cap. They are just sketches, quick recordings so as not to forget anything, often on my phone! So no studio quality… Here you will also find some pieces for classical insruments and orchestra. I use Presonus Notion 6 for music notation and Studio One as my DAW. Live music (including in my studio) is recorded with the Tascam DP24SD.
We moved in 2020, and since then I have since been able to equip a room as a studio. It’s quite small, but fortunately People’s Cap is only a duo, and our recent recordings are pretty good, I think!
