The strange case of the smiling nurse

8:15 AM, walking back from the dining room

I’ve had a good breakfast.
It was good, even though the radio was on, which I particularly hate at breakfast.
I listened to the traffic news without a problem.
I’m walking back to my room, down the long main corridor.
One of the nurses looks at me with a beaming smile. At first I don’t know why. Then I realise that I am singing: La Solitudine by Laura Pausini.
In Italian, a language I don’t even speak.
I once memorized it because I liked it so much.
I still do.
Life is so good sometimes.
